Why buy a used Alfa Romeo from BonAuto?

  • Rear-wheel-drive architecture as standard, Q4 all-wheel drive optional: road behaviour that is rare in the segment.
  • About 280 horsepower from the 2.0 L turbo engine and ZF 8-speed transmission on the common versions.
  • Inspection focused on electronics and maintenance history, where an Alfa's reliability is really decided.
  • Full CARFAX report provided on every vehicle.
  • Legal warranty of good working order according to age and mileage (Consumer Protection Act).
  • Flexible financing, all credit scores accepted.

The Giulia, Alfa Romeo's return to North America

Alfa Romeo came back to Canada in 2015 after a long absence, and the Giulia (2017 model year onward) is the car that carried that return. It is a compact luxury sedan with rear-wheel drive as standard and optional Q4 all-wheel drive, an architecture that puts it up against the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 rather than against front-wheel-drive sedans.

The base engine is a 2.0 L turbo four-cylinder with about 280 horsepower, paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic. The Quadrifoglio version gets a 2.9 L twin-turbo V6, a rare car whose maintenance costs have nothing to do with those of the regular Giulia. On the Quebec used market, the 2.0 L Q4 is the one you come across, and it is the one that makes sense for year-round driving.

What we check on a used Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo's reliability reputation is rarely decided by the mechanics: it is the electronics and the service record that make the difference between a good and a bad used Giulia. Our inspection focuses on:

  • The infotainment system and modules: screen, camera, driver-assistance sensors. Dormant codes are read with a scan tool, not by eye.
  • The Q4 transfer case: cold behaviour of the all-wheel drive, differential noises, condition of the driveshaft.
  • The maintenance history: an Alfa serviced at the dealership, with its oil changes and software updates done, is a very different car from a neglected one. The CARFAX report matters more here than on a Japanese sedan.
  • Brakes and tires: the discs are generous and wear comes faster than on an ordinary compact. Worth budgeting for.

Driving an Alfa Romeo in Quebec: parts, network and winter

The Alfa Romeo network in Quebec is concentrated in the Montreal region. For an owner in the Laurentians or north of Montreal, that means two things: original parts have to be ordered (they do not sit on the shelves of the local garage), and a good independent shop that knows European brands is worth its weight in gold.

In winter, a Giulia Q4 does very well: the all-wheel drive and the weight distribution work in its favour. The real decision is the tire: a rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive car of this size calls for four real winter tires, not all-seasons. Also plan on premium fuel for these turbo engines.

If you are looking for a specific Alfa (a Giulia Ti, a Stelvio, a Veloce version) and it is not on our lot, we can look for it for you: that is the vehicle search service, free and with no obligation.
