Nissan: the widest lineup on the used market

Nissan offers one of the widest lineups among mainstream brands: from the economical subcompact (Versa) to the mid-size pickup (Frontier), including the 7-seat family SUV (Pathfinder), the affordable-luxury sedan (Maxima) and the pioneering electric vehicle (Leaf). On the Quebec used market, that means more choice for every budget.

Rogue, Sentra, Frontier: the most sought-after Nissans

• Nissan Rogue: best-selling compact SUV since 2014. Optional AWD, redesigned 2021+ version (3rd gen) with a premium interior and a more powerful 2.5L engine. A direct rival to the RAV4 and CR-V, often $2,000 cheaper.
• Nissan Sentra: compact sedan. The 8th gen (2020+) is a total transformation: near-luxury interior, available digital instrument cluster, refined driving. An excellent economical option.
• Nissan Frontier: mid-size pickup that was redesigned in 2022 after years of stagnation. 6,720 lb towing capacity, a robust platform, and a more affordable alternative to the Tacoma.
• Nissan Pathfinder: 3-row, 7-seat SUV. Redesigned for 2022 with a 3.5L V6 and a 9-speed transmission (instead of the previous CVT, see the inspection section below).
• Nissan Leaf: pioneering electric vehicle (since 2010). Range of 240-360 km depending on the battery. Eligible for Roulez Vertwhen bought used.

Nissan inspection: the CVT under close watch

Nissan has used a CVT transmission (continuously variable) on most of its models since 2007. It is a reliable technology when properly maintained, but it is also more sensitive than conventional transmissionsto careless drivers: overheating when towing, aggressive starts, skipped fluid changes (recommended every 60,000 km).

• Test behaviour cold and hot (vibrations, hesitation, slipping)

Newer models (2018+) have improved CVTs and cause far fewer problems. The 2022+ Pathfinder and 2022+ Frontier dropped the CVT for a true 9-speed automatic.
