RAM 1500: the pickup with the best interior in the industry

Since the 2019 redesign (5th gen DT), the RAM 1500has repeatedly won the title of best half-ton pickup at the Motor Trend, Consumer Reports and The Car Guide awards. • RAM 2500 and 3500: Heavy Duty (HD), three-quarter-ton and one-ton. For very heavy towing and intensive commercial use. 6.4L HEMI V8 or 6.7L Cummins diesel (12-valve). Capacity up to 37,000 lb (3500 max configuration).
• RAM ProMaster: cargo van (equivalent to the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter). Multiple cargo and passenger configurations.
• RAM ProMaster City: compact urban cargo van.

RAM Air Ride suspension: the comfort advantage

The RAM 1500 is the only full-size pickup to offer a 4-corner air suspension (Air Ride). It allows automatic lowering of the body to make loading easier, adaptive ride height, and a ride quality clearly superior to pickups with rear leaf springs.

On the used market, we systematically flag the presence of this option (often on Limited / Longhorn / Laramie versions). It adds value if well maintained, but can also be a watch point after 100,000 km (compressor, air springs). We always check it.

RAM inspection: HEMI engine, ZF transmission, frame

Our RAM inspection pays particular attention to:

• 5.7L HEMI engine: MDS (Multi-Displacement System) that deactivates 4 cylinders under light load: watch for error codes and oil consumption
• ZF 8-speed transmission: fluid change recommended every 96,000 km, code scan
• 4WD system and differentials: test of the transfer case and the rear differential lock
• Air Ride suspension (if equipped): compressor test, air spring leaks, ride height
• Frame and underbody: corrosion, especially on models that have seen a lot of road salt
